Bracco Italiano
Breed Group: sporting
"The Italians taught me how to be smooth and sweet!"
Breed Profile
The Bracco Italiano’s long face may make them look solemn, but these Italian dogs are as happy as can be. They are generally low maintenance and have a gentle soul that’s the perfect match for families looking for a calm and loyal companion.
Behavior
Bracchi are noble, confident, sensitive, and smart dogs that make great companions. They adapt easily to just about any setting and are easy to train. These dogs are gentle around their families but strong and sturdy in the field. Bracchi will bark whenever new people or animals approach them, but they’re too sweet to be guard dogs.
Coat
The Bracco Italiano has a short, shiny coat of dense fur. They’re usually white with orange, amber, or chestnut brown markings. The Bracco’s fur tends to be hard on the majority of the body and softer on the head. This breed doesn’t shed much, so their grooming needs are minimal. Give the Bracco a thorough brushing once a week, and their coats will remain in good shape.
Lifestyle
Bracchi play nicely with their friends and companions but may be reserved around strangers. They get along especially well with children and are extra gentle and patient with them. Bracchi also are friendly with dogs and other household pets, as long as they’re raised together. This breed should live in a home with a yard and be kept as indoor dogs so they can get the proper amount of human attention and interaction.
Activity
The Bracco Italiano has a hunting background, so they need daily exercise. They enjoy playing fetch, running around the countryside, and chasing wild animals, but a long walk or hike each day will do the trick. Bracchi crave companionship, so they especially love when you join them in their daily activities.
