Braque de l'Ariege

Breed Group: sporting
"Hunting machine, but calm behind the scenes!"
Breed Profile
The Braque de l'Ariege is an independent French pointing dog that would rather work than play. Whether they're hunting, running around, or retrieving, you can count on this pup to get the job done and enjoy doing it.

Behavior

The Braque de l’Ariege was bred to work, so they're happiest when they have a job to do. These dogs are super independent, easy to train, and quite docile. They enjoy hunting and any activity that gets their blood pumping. Although the Braque de l’Ariege is a hunter at heart, they're too calm and gentle to be a guard dog or watchdog.

Coat

The Braque de l’Ariege has a short, shiny coat. Their most common color combinations are white with orange or fawn markings and white with brown markings. Because their fur is so short, they are low maintenance when it comes to grooming. They do shed, but brushing them once in a while should help keep their coats under control.

Lifestyle

As hunting dogs, the Braque de l’Ariege need plenty of room to roam and shouldn’t be kept in an apartment or small space. They also need an owner who can keep up with their energy and fulfill their exercise needs. This breed is generally good with children and other dogs, but they are not as friendly toward cats and other animals.

Activity

The Braque de l’Ariege has high energy and needs hard exercise every day. Whether hunting, hiking, or running, these dogs welcome any activity they can get. If the Braque de l’Ariege doesn’t get enough exercise, they're likely to become hyperactive and destructive. So, if you’re considering this breed, get ready to get active.
