Braque Saint-Germain

The Braque Saint-Germain is an affectionate, devoted dog. They love being around people, whether hunting in the field, cuddling at home, or spending time in the show ring. Although Braque Saint-Germains are hunters, they’re too sweet and social to be guard dogs or watchdogs. This breed learns quickly and is eager to please, so when you’re training them, use reward rather than firm corrections to teach them wrong from right.

Like most pointing dogs, the Braque Saint-Germain has a short and smooth coat. They’re typically white with orange or fawn markings. Braque Saint-Germains shed, but they’re fairly low maintenance when it comes to grooming. All they need is regular brushing and a good bath once in a while to keep their coat under control.

When they’re socialized from a young age, Braque Saint-Germains get along well with children and other dogs. They may be more wary or curious around cats and furry critters, but they can be trained to co-exist. Because of their size and hunting instincts, Braque Saint-Germains are happiest in home settings where they have plenty of space to run and roam.

The Braque Saint-Germain’s energy varies based on whether they've been raised as workers or show dogs, but you can assume that most of them need hard exercise every day. Whether running, hiking, hunting, or playing games, any activity that keeps the Braque Saint-Germain busy will be good for their mind and body.
