"I’ll follow my nose; you'll follow me."
Breed Profile
Chien Francais Tricolores are hunters of deer and wild boar from France. Sometimes referred to as French Tricolor Hounds, these large scenthounds prefer working and living with other dogs. A loyal family companion, they need plenty of exercise and a consistent human leader. Chien Francais Tricolores are also very handsome hounds!

Behavior

Chien Francais Tricolores are happiest when hard at work! They have skilled snouts and will sound off their deep bark when excited, curious, or have stumbled upon something. Chien Francais Tricolores are strong and strong-willed. You’ll need to be firm and consistent for them to take you seriously. When part of a family, these hounds are a loyal bunch!

Coat

Chien Francais Tricolores have a short multi-colored coat that requires very light maintenance. Brush weekly to remove dead hairs and bathe as needed. Be sure to check those long hound ears for signs of infection on a regular basis too.

Lifestyle

Chien Francais Tricolores are pack dogs and prefer to live with doggie friends. Smaller animals, on the other hand, require some careful socialization. These dogs are hunters after all. Chien Francais Tricolores appreciate room to roam. They love to be in the country, but will adapt to a big backyard. These long-legged hounds need space and can be loud, which doesn’t make them a good match for apartment life.

Activity

Hunting is clearly the Chien Francais Tricolore's favorite activity. They get to run far and fast and sniff out all kinds of fun things. If hunting isn’t your thing, though, these dogs can make excellent long-distance running companions and are also wonderful family companions.
