Deutsche Bracke

The Deutsche Bracke is an avid hunter. They are intelligent and trainable but are owned primarily as hunting dogs. They aren’t meant to be a social family pet, even though they do get along well with their human owners. These dogs are great swimmers and sometimes run together in packs for certain hunting activities. True to their hound roots, they will call out loudly when they’ve spotted something interesting.

The Deutsche Bracke has a thick, short coat that is usually tricolor- a combination of white, black, and tan or red. Their coats are also dense, helping to protect them from the outdoor elements. They sometimes have white markings on their faces and chests. These dogs are average shedders and need occasional brushings to remove dead hairs. Other than that, they're relatively low maintenance in the grooming department.

Deutsche Brackes are best-suited filling their role as hunting dog in the great outdoors. They aren’t a snuggly family pet, but if you’re a hunter that loves to be outside each day hunting the trail, this breed would be the perfect dog for you! They can get along well with other dogs, especially other hunting dogs with similar goals, when properly trained.

The great outdoors is the place for these active dogs. Deutsche Bracke must be outside for a good portion of the day in order to stay happy and healthy. When they’re not hunting, long brisk walks or running will be enough to keep them exercised. They are used to living near water and marshlands, so swimming is a favorite activity for this breed.
