Drentse Patrijshond

The Drentse Patrijshond is intelligent and active, and they like to use these talents in a variety of ways. They were bred to hunt and be on the lookout for fowl and game, so keep that in mind when placing this dog around other small animals. However, these dog make excellent family pets and are gentle and affectionate with children when properly socialized. The Drentse Patrijshond makes a good watchdog, so they will be wary of strangers.

The coat on a Drentse Patrijshond is long and swirled. They have long hairs on their legs, making them appear to have an even longer coat than may actually exist. But they are relatively low maintenance and require a weekly brushing with an occasional bath.

Although the Drentse Patrijshond was bred to be a great hunting companion, they will also fit in well with you and your family. They love the outdoors, but they may adjust to apartment life if they are able to get enough exercise. Otherwise, the lack of exercise for these dogs will be damaging. They do need training and socialization so they will know how to fit in with children and other pets. They love to hunt and even swim and are known for their sunny disposition in every situation.

The Drentse Patrijshond is as comfortable at home on the house next to you as they are out on the hunting trail. That doesn’t mean that this is a sedate dog, though. They require adequate daily exercise, usually running beside a bike, playing fetch, or brisk walks work well to keep them physically and mentally healthy.
