"I follow my nose; you should too!"
Breed Profile
The Norwegian Hound, Dunker, is a medium-sized scenthound, renowned for their ability to track any trail. They are smart and relaxed, and they love to get their exercise when hunting after a small, furry critter.

Behavior

The Dunker breed is known for being fantastic hunters and a natural fit for a family. They get along well with most humans, including children, but they need training from the time that they’re puppies to know how to behave. They won’t do as well around other animals, since they view other small furry pets as prey. Overall, this breed is friendly and relaxed, provided that a good owner knows their needs and will offer lots of activity and exercise.

Coat

The Dunker coat’s most prominent feature is the speckles. It has large patches of black and smaller spots over the black, with white and tan coloring over the rest of their bodies. The coat is straight, dense, and rough and usually only requires occasional brushing. They are average shedders and only need a bath when they've been playing outdoors.

Lifestyle

The Dunker may be a laid back dog, but they're only apt to act so when properly trained. They need training from a very young age in order to get along with other animals, and small animals should not live with a Dunker. They do love humans, though, and are obedient and make great companions when properly socialized. Dunkers need high amounts of exercise, so be sure to put on your running shoes each day. These dogs are prized for their hunting abilities, so apartment life will only be suitable if they get adequate daily activity.

Activity

The Dunker is a hunter, first and foremost. They need lots of daily exercise - whether they're hunting or engaged in activities that will simulate the hunt. They make great jogging partners, which is a great outlet for their high energy needs.
