Francais Blanc et Orange
Breed Group: sporting
"I'm orange and white and cute all over!"
Breed Profile
A rare breed today, Francais Blanc et Orange were bred for their keen hunting noses. They like to talk while they work… and talk while they play. They enjoy a good pack of people, children, and other dogs, but they do require supervision around small critters. These fun-loving hounds follow their nose and get themselves in some unlikely and pretty comical situations.
Behavior
Francais Blanc et Orange are fun-loving, even-mannered, and friendly dogs. They follow their noses wherever it leads them and can get themselves into some goofy situations in the process! Francais Blanc et Orange like to speak up and tell you what’s on their mind. It doesn’t matter whether they are happy, lonesome, or have found something cool they’d like to share. When they are on the scent trail, your voice can sometimes move to the background for these hounds. They are trainable, but you might have to ask for something more than once when they are distracted. Consistent, ongoing training is recommended.
Coat
They are known for their beautiful white and orange coat. With a short and smooth texture, it doesn’t take too much to keep these hounds looking good. Use a good bristle brush on them once a week to reduce shedding. It is also a good idea to clean their droopy hound ears regularly with a cotton ball and vet-approved solution. These dogs usually wear down their nails when they run. But if you start to hear clicking when they walk, it might be time to give them a trim.
Lifestyle
Francais Blanc et Orange thrive in large homes with spacious backyards. They tend to be high-energy outside but toned-down indoors. However, these dogs do not know what an inside voice is. For the sake of your neighbor’s ears, they may not be the best choice for urban and apartment-style living. They love being a part of a family, but children should be reminded about innocent poking and prodding with this breed. These scent hounds should also be watched around smaller animals due to their hunting instinct. Francais Blanc et Orange love to have dog friends.
Activity
Give these scent hounds a job to do with their nose! Let them sniff out a treat in the backyard. Train them for search and rescue. Or, take them hunting with you. On days you don’t have a job for them to do, it’s important to still help them burn off some energy. The happiest Francais Blanc et Orange get more than two hours of intense exercise each day.
