Breed Group: hound
"I have a long name and even longer legs!"
Breed Profile
Bred to hunt deer in France, Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds are strong, leggy dogs. They love working with their owner and a group of dogs. Often living outside, Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds are not commonly seen as family playmates.

Behavior

Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds are always ready to work. They are strong and strong-willed. You’ll find you’ll get more out of these large scenthounds in a pack environment. Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds enjoy being around their owners and other animals but can be a bit aloof toward new people. As with most dogs with hunting instincts, keep an eye on them around smaller pets, which tend to look like fun furry toys to chase.

Coat

Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds have a – you guessed it – white and black coat. These hounds are pretty low maintenance in the grooming department. Brushing their short coat once a week will help remove dead hair and reduce any shedding. Be sure to do ear checks regularly, though, as the long ears of these hard workers get dirty and can lead to infections.

Lifestyle

Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds are outdoor dogs. They have very long legs that require some serious stretching. It would be difficult to squeeze these large dogs into an apartment. If you have acreage for them to sniff and roam, you will surely have a happy hound on your hands.

Activity

Great Anglo-Francais White and Black Hounds can take upwards of two hours of exercise a day to keep them happy and healthy. Activities for these muscular dogs include: hunting, tracking, and running.
