Kai

As family members, Kais are trustworthy, affectionate, and protective. With proper socialization and training, Kais generally make loving companions for children, although young family members should be reminded not to tug on ears and tails. Their guardian instincts can take effect when strangers approach and might take a warming-up period with new friends. As with most breeds, well-exercised dogs are well-behaved dogs!

Kais have a beautiful and unique coat. It starts out as solid black fur and changes to a reddish brindle as they get older. Kais owners' grooming kits should include a slicker brush, doggie tooth brush and vet-approved toothpaste, pet shampoo, and nail clippers. Their dense coat requires weekly brushing to remove dead hairs. Kais are very clean dogs, so it is only recommended to bathe them as needed.

Kais are a good fit for experienced dog owners and active families with older children. These athletic dogs do have exercise needs and make good use of a large backyard – especially one with a view. But these devoted pooches can fare well in most indoor household settings provided they receive their daily walks and regular runs. Kais are used to working in packs and enjoy having dog buddies around. They have strong hunting instincts and should be supervised around small furry pets.

Kais enjoy hiking with the family and going for a long morning run. Kais have a high prey drive and should be kept on a leash when away from home. Activities that involve the whole pack, or family, will make a happy Kai!
