Breed Profile
Majorca Mastiffs have an enormous head and a fearsome appearance that aids in their reputation as excellent watchdogs. They are very protective of their families, but they are loving and loyal as well. Majorca Mastiffs are generally quiet and calm unless they feel their family is being threatened.
Behavior
Majorca Mastiffs love their families and are incredibly devoted dogs. However, they are strong-minded and require an owner who is assertive and experienced with dog ownership. In quiet, normal situations, Majorca Mastiffs are calm and collected, but were a stranger to come in unannounced and appears threatening, the dog nor the stranger will likely be pleased.
Coat
The Majorca Mastiff can come in colors of whitish tan or brindle, fawn, or black. Majorca Mastiffs have a short, rough coat that doesn’t require too much effort to care for. A brushing once a week or once every other week will help keep their coat healthy and cut back on the amount of hair you find around your house.
Lifestyle
Majorca Mastiffs prefer a home with outdoor space to roam but can adapt to apartment life if they get their daily exercise. Although Majorca Mastiffs make excellent watchdogs, they have a tender spot in their hearts for children. They get along very well with little ones, although they should still be supervised when playing together. Majorca Mastiffs can learn to be buddies with animals they are raised with, but they can be territorial and usually see cats as chase toys. Majorca Mastiffs tend to be dominate, so they usually fit better in families with lots of dog owning experience and are not the breed for first-time owners.
Activity
Majorca Mastiffs require a good amount of daily exercise. They will enjoy a long walk or a brisk jog. These dogs can be stubborn and independent, so make sure they understand you are in charge or they will take charge themselves. You should always walk first and lead the dog through exercise so they know you’re the boss.
