Montenegrin Mountain Hound

Montenegrin Mountain Hounds have a reputation for being loving and loyal toward their owners, but they can sometimes grow to be distrustful of strangers and should be socialized as much as possible, as early as possible. Their favorite activity is hunting, and they’ll follow their nose as far as it will take them.

Montenegrin Mountain Hounds have a smooth, short coat that does not require extensive grooming. You’ll want to run a brush through their coat about once a week and after every time you’ve taken them out into the field for a hunt.

Montenegrin Mountain Hounds fit best in homes where they have access to a large, fenced-in yard. They are not suited to apartment living but can adapt to living indoors or outdoors as long as they have shelter. Montenegrin Mountain Hounds do need plenty of love and attention, so it's best if they are allowed in the house to spend time with their families. They usually do just fine with children, especially slightly older kids, and they also get along with cats and other dogs when they are raised together. However, if you have a different kind of pet that might look like something hound would want to hunt, you will want to supervise them when together.

Ideally, Montenegrin Mountain Hounds should have access to a large area where they can play at will. These dogs love to follow their noses and run in open spaces. You should plan on giving your Montenegrin Mountain Hound vigorous daily exercise to keep them happy and healthy.
