Breed Profile
Pyrenean Mastiffs are giant dogs who love people but are also stubborn. They are very protective of their families and their flock. Pyrenean Mastiffs have lots of energy and are prone to independent thinking, so they're best suited for an experienced owner who knows how to become pack leader.
Behavior
Pyrenean Mastiffs are protective of their families and because of their size, are capable of fending off large animals from their herd, so strangers should beware this large protector. It’s important to socialize your Pyrenean Mastiff around lots of people from an early age so they do not become too aggressive. Since they are used to making their own decisions when protecting herds, this breed can be headstrong. Owning a Pyrenean Mastiff requires an owner with strong leadership skills.
Coat
The Pyrenean Mastiff has a thick, bristly coat that sheds heavily twice a year. You’ll need to brush their coat at least twice a week and even more during shedding periods. They only need a bath when they're truly dirty.
Lifestyle
The Pyrenean Mastiff is a big dog with lots of energy. They do best in homes with a yard to play in and don’t take well to apartment life. The Pyrenean Mastiff can live inside or outside, but they need lots of time spent with their families in order to stay happy.
