Small Swiss Hound

Small Swiss Hounds are reliable companions and tireless trackers who do not require a human leader. These independent hounds have a stubborn streak and will only listen to someone who has a strong pack leader status. Small Swiss Hounds use their loud voices to to communicate while working… and playing, and they don't have an indoor version of the howl. Proper exercise for these hounds is important. Generally speaking, well-exercised dogs are well-behaved dogs!

Some have white coats with orange patches, and others feature tri-color markings. Some have short, sleek coats, and others showcase wiry-textured fur. All of these dogs are Small Swiss Hounds. No matter the variety, this colorful bunch is easy to groom. Brush weekly with a bristle brush to remove dead hairs and reduce shedding. Be sure to take a peek at the inside of their droopy ears for signs of infection, and bathe as needed.

Small Swiss Hounds make efficient hunting companion and family-friendly pet who prefer rural setting. These are good-natured dogs, but it’s always a good idea to provide early training and socialization for pups who will be around small children. Small Swiss Hounds are known to be generally patient with the poking and prodding from little ones.

If you were to ask a Small Swiss Hound what they’d like to do today, their answer would always be: hunting. But if that doesn’t happen to be your sport, be sure to work up a daily sweat with these dogs. Because of their stamina, they have high-energy needs. It’s not uncommon for these hounds to be on the move for several hours at a time.
