"What's this 'inside voice' you speak of?"
Breed Profile
Swiss Hounds are known for sniffing out fox and hare in Switzerland. They work in a team of other dogs, which can be both a musical and colorful experience. There are four different coat variations for this breed, but no matter their shade, Swiss Hounds are passionate hunters and laid-back family companions!
Behavior
These passionate hunters use their voice to communicate on the hunt and to tell you if someone is at the door. But don't worry, Swiss Hounds are usually very friendly to the person ringing the doorbell. Swiss Hounds love the company of their families and will give lots of kisses after a fun day. They are cuddly dogs but like to play and chill equally.
Coat
Blue roan coats, white coats with black patches ,and white coats with orange patches are a few of the variations of the Swiss Hound. Occasional brushing is all Swiss Hounds really need to keep their coat healthy, and they should be bathed as needed. One thing to stay on top of, however, is ear care. Wipe the inside of their droopy ears with a cotton ball and vet-approved solution regularly to keep them clean and free of infection.
Lifestyle
Swiss Hounds are happy in rural or suburban environments. These hounds are talkers, which might not be appreciated by neighbors. Needless to say, apartment living is not ideal. These dogs love company and prefer to live with dog friends. They also tend to be more open toward small pets than most hunting hounds, but it is still best to keep an eye on them when together – especially if not raised together. While training is important for any dogs who will be around little ones, Swiss Hounds are known to be gentle and affectionate with children.
Activity
Swiss Hounds are big fans of hunting. They are also big fans of their family and will love the opportunity to do something new with you! Daily walks, long hikes, and racing alongside your bicycle are a few fun things to try with these hounds.
